Mr. Anslem D. O’Brien of Elmsdale, first president of the Exhibition Association, held office for 23 years (1926-1949). Mr. O’Brien was a quiet but strong promoter for the betterment of the farming area in" which he lived. Many of the men associated with him were motivated by assimilar intent. The interest shown by these gentlemen

resulted in an annual event, whiCh still draws «many to participate and enjoy the festivities. '

ELMSDALE 4-H . The Beginnings - In 1974 Elmsdale 4-H began when Doris Dunn, a local farming mother approached Jim Harris from the Department of Agriculture with a request to PPen a 4-H club. The response was overwhelming with over twenty members join- mg the first year.” The dairy project was the biggest component of the club followed by sewing and tractors. Members came from Montrose, Alma, Union, St. Lawrence and Elmsdale. Meetings were held at the Elmsdale Community Center. The first
