Spud Limited warehouses in 2005 Wallace Properties Ltd. in 2005 total disaster, but luckily crop insurance covered the loss and they were able to conĀ¬ tinue. By 1976 Thane MacNeill had left the company and Alvin Adams joined Eric Adams in the partnership and they built a second storage warehouse. Later both warehouses were extended. The potatoes were sold to local dealers Ralph Rennie , Wilfred Griffin and F.J. Shea in St. Louis . The company built a third warehouse in 1982, which was used for grading, packaging and shipping potatoes. A railway spur was built by CN making the building railway accessible, as this was how potatoes were being shipped off-island. Eric Adams in 1984 sold his share of Spud Limited to his brother Walter. The company bought more land and increased the acreage so more storage was needed. The third warehouse was used as a storage facility while the new addition to it housed a newer grading and packaging plant. It had a loading dock as trucks were now used for shipping potatoes. Land and a warehouse was bought next door in 1987 from Vernon Hardy. Walter and Alvin operated the comĀ¬ pany until Alvin's death in 1993 then Walter sold his share to Alvin's wife Lillian, who operated the company from 1994 to 2005 with her sons David and Bruce Adams. Lillian did the day-to-day bookwork for the company from 1982 to the present with the part time help of Noreen Millman , Elizabeth MacLeod and Mabel Mallett . In 2005 David sold his share to his brother Bruce. The company continues to grow potatoes mostly contracted with processing companies. Barley and hay are grown in the crop rotation. Since 1997 a small trucking business is operated as part of Spud Limited . 116
