GOIN' TO THE CORNER While at Elmsdale he worked hard to renovate and extensively expand the Church. The old building had seating for approximately 140 while the new church has seat¬ ing for 230 and will hold 300 people if necessary. With the renovations came a multi-purpose basement including a kitchen. There's also more classroom space and storage areas and an enlarged office area. Work started in May 1995 beginning with the demolition of most of the old building. During the construction phase, Sunday services were held at the Elmsdale Community Centre. Weeknight services were held in homes. The congregation moved back into their church with over 300 people present for a gospel concert with the Gospelaires. The original plan was to build an entirely new building on land owned by the church but not near the corner. However, Rev. Adams reminded the congregation that the present site was a very visible and convenient site for the Church. When the newly renovated church opened, a new Yamaha electric organ and a new altar rail were dedicated. The new sanctuary also has a fantastic sound system controlled from a booth at the rear. From that booth, the controller can also raise and lower the screen for overheads. Lillian Adams Coll. Elmsdale Church of the Nazarene, 2005 214
