GOIN ’ TO THE CORNER

First two custodians of St. Bernadette’s Church: Howard .O’Halloran and Charles Griffin, with Laddie the dog
he was presented with a glider rocker. Edmond Gaudet was custodian for a short while, followed by Eric Jones, who is still custodian in 2005.
Church rules have changed considerably since the early days of the church. Here are a few examples. Mass has changed from being said in Latin to English. The priest faces the congregation now during the service. Fasting was required from midnight until after communion was given. The large railing around the altar was removed. Each family had to buy a pew. They were required to use this pew for one year. At that time another draw would take place. There was always some grumbling if a family didn’t get the pew they were hoping for. It was a must for women to wear something on their
heads while in the church. It was told that one lady held her hand on top of her head so she could enter the church. In 2005 there are 30 families belonging to St. Bemadette’s congregation, including about 15 from Brockton. MaSS continues to be said every Saturday at 4:30 pm. People from many surrounding communities fill
the church each week.
