Those wish¬ ing to get on the train pushed the "flag" into a vertical position indicating that the train should stop. The shed station had a bench attached to the wall, but no stove or storage for freight. The name Station was used for the railway station until at least 1879 (and ap¬ pears in the 1880 Meacham's Atlas) al¬ though the community had been using the name Elmsdale for many years.
