George Meggison ran to my place, for my fa¬ ther William Wallace who was eighty years old at the time and was there with his horse and sleigh. My fa¬ ther, George Meggison , Art and Jim Wallace and myself all climbed aboard the sleigh and went gallop¬ ing through Meggison's field to rescue the horse. At that point both bobsleds were in the hole with all Mr. Black 's Rawleigh merchandise. We lassoed the horse with a rope; he was barely able to stand when we got him out on the ice, having been in the freezing water for over an hour. With difficulty we managed to save the sleigh but Mr. Black suffered quite a loss, about fifty dollars worth of goods, that was a lot of money in those days. John Black came from Canaan Forks, NB to PEI in 1912 and was employed by W.T. Rawleigh Ltd. for thirty-five years.
