GOIN' TO THE CORNER Later in 1953 Jim decided to move to Summerside , and leased his store, warehouse and egg grading station to Alvin and Goldie Wilkie. Alvin Wilkie - Alvin and Goldie Wilkie opened their store November 1953 and carried the same products that Mr. Johnston had previously carried. A clerk who worked for them in 1953 and 1954 was Ruby Adams and after she left, Goldie worked in the store. They ran the store until 1956, when they auctioned off all remaining merchandise and vacated the store. Alvin had been accepted for a position with the Postal Department. He started out with the post office in his house on the in July 1956. The store's owner, Jim Johnston , then sold the store and ware¬ house to Ralph Rennie who had them hauled to his farm. Jim Johnston sold the egg grading station to Joshua Smallman for a workshop. The next owners were Harry and Thelma Wells, who hauled it next to Jack Adams ' store, where Jewel Wells ran a canteen. Later it was hauled across the , to near where Chris and Maria Avery live today, and Roy Duggan lived in it for a while. Finally William and Hannah Murray bought the egg grading station for a house and hauled it up the , where it still sits. Waldron Rix - The Summerside Jour¬ nal October 2,1947 reported a new store being built in Elmsdale by Waldron Rix . It was located on a lot beside his brother Fraser Rix 's house. Ruby Adams worked in this store. From the Summerside Jour¬ nal June 14, 1948 it was found that Waldron had sold his store to John Adams and had taken a position in Charlottetown . Kenneth R. Matthews - From land records it was found that April 22,1948 John Andrew Callahan sold his property, Clearing Out SALE! All goods at drastically reduc¬ ed prices, including Groceries, Dry Goods and Footwear. Every¬ thing must go. Sale continues until all stock is cleared out. A.W.
