and then John Henderson. William Yeo sold such things as cakes of tobacco, matches, sugar, eggs, tea, soap and possibly other merchandise typical of a small store. Peo- ple could also bring eggs to the store to exchange for necessary items. It is not

known how long he ran this store.

John McCarthy’s name appears in the 1881 census as being a trader and from 1892 t01913 he had the post office in his home. He may have also run a small store out Of

his home.

Murray’s Video - Reggie and Claudette Murray constructed a new building on the Dock Road and opened a Video store around 1988. They rented out and sold videos.

They also sold pop and chips. This store closed in 2000.

Bell’s Nursery — In 1987 Hillard and Pearl Bell opened Bell’s Nursery. In their greenhouses they raised seedlings. They grew all of the annuals and most of th6 perennials they sold. Shade, ornamental and fruit trees along with a variety of shrubS were brought in from other nurseries, as were mulches and fertilizers. Other family members who worked in the business were daughter Susan, daughter-in-law Lindil and grandchildren Alvin, Brenda and Deidre Bell. Dorothy Ashley and Vincent McRae

worked for the Bells.
