The Mobile Ice Cream Canteen - About 30 years ago Thelma Wells and Jewel Finley had a mobile ice cream canteen built. They used a half-ton truck to haul it from place to place. They sold only ice cream, sundaes, and milk shakes. It was a popular place when set up at events such as the horse races at Alberton track, the Prince County Exhibition grounds, the Tignish Moss Festival, the O’Leary Potato Blossom Festival, and the Egmont Bay Exhibition. It is still in use and can be seen each year at the Prince County Exhibition in Alberton, just outside on the south side

of the old dining room.

Adams-Blanchard Canteens —- In the spring Of 1983 Ivan and Lily Adams had Mike Kinch build them a mobile trailer in which they operated a canteen called “Adams’ Canteen”. They set up their canteen at the Alberton Farmers’ Market, the Alberton racetrack, Jacques Cartier Provincial Park and sometimes in their son Allan’s front yard.
