~- TAILORS There were four tailors in the Elmsdale area: Peter Murphy 1871, Lemuel C. Hayden, John A. Reid, and Joshua Smallman. They made men’s suits and overcoats from' blue or black serge, cashmere and wool. The suits were made with vests. Braces held up the pants. The overcoats were made of heavy black English Jersey wool or made-of 100% virgin wool and pure angora hair. There are few overcoats worn by men today. They wear jackets, summer and winter. A few men were lucky enough to have a fur coat, which is a‘thing of the paSt today. Lemuel C. Hayden’s tailor shop faced the Western Road where the Corner Gas and Convenience Store is located in

2006.
