In October 1940 they decided to send for necker— chiefs as the first step in securing their uniforms. Three of the Boy Scouts of the Elmsdale troop, namely, Fred Whelan, Douglas Patterson, and Lloyd Horne, along with Scouts and Scoutmasters of Alberton, Ti gnish and O’Leary, spent a weekend at Maxfield’s Shore in Cascumpec. In June 1940 Cap— tain Eric Ings, Commissioner of PEI Boy Scouts was also in attendance. In July 1940 a league game be- tween Elmsdale and Alberton Boy Scout troops was Reg MacColl. played at Elmsdale. The Elmsdale Troop defeated Fred Whale“ the Alberton Scouts by a score of 16 to 13. Rev. Mr. Davies from Alberton umpired the game. The Elmsdale Scouts are believed to have met until 1942 when Rev. Mr. Patterson left the Montrose Pastoral Charge. Elmsdale Boy Scouts then became part of the Alberton troop.
ELMSDALE RED CROSS UNIT The Island Farmer August 11, 1915 reported that:
On July 16, 1915 the ladies of Elmsdale held in connection with a Red Cross picnic, a Strawberry Festival, which, as all other work undertaken by those ladies, was an entire success. The sum of $82.50 was realiZed, which will be donated to Red Cross work. The day was a lovely one and a large crowd assembled, and the manner in which they spent their money evidenced that they have at heart the Red Cross cause, and are ever ready to do all to provide ways and means that our boys get every comfort. The ladies desire to thank each and every one who in any way contributed to the success of the affair. They extend special thanks to the children of Archie Matthews, James Brennan, Robert Boyles and Amos Coughlan, who under the rays of a hot sun picked in all 50 lbs. of strawberries and
