A History of Elmsdale , West, and Brockton , The unit members made the following items between October 1940 and No¬ vember 1941: "5 pairs two-way mitts, 18 sweat¬ ers, 5 pairs broadcast mitts, 8 scarves, 5 pairs pajamas, 8 helmets, 12 baby gowns, 3 steel helmet caps, 2 quilts, 1 aero cap, 1 afghan, 29 pairs whole mitts, 67 pairs socks, 1 pair seaman's stockings." In December 1942, Home Nursing Emergency Classes were held, instructed by Mrs. John Callaghan , RN, of Elmsdale . Over the years the presidents of the Elmsdale were Mrs. Bruce Currie , Mrs. George Murray , Mrs. Burton Stewart , and Mrs. George Hardy . Mrs. Hardy was president in 1945, and when she took over the books there were five pairs of men's socks on hand. The following women knitted socks: Mrs. Lottie Forsythe , Mrs. Burton Stewart , Mrs. Irving Williams , Mrs. Irving Hardy , Mrs. Hamp ¬ ton Home, Mrs. David Matthews (3), Mrs. George Hardy and Mrs. Leslie Hardy , for a total of fifteen, including the five pairs on hand. Two men's sweaters were knit by Mrs. MacLean Home and Mrs. Lloyd Adams . One child's sweater and one child's coat by Mrs. George Murray ; one pair pajamas by Mrs. MacLean Home ; one scarf by Mrs. David Williams ; and one pair of gloves by Mrs. Burton Stewart . Thirteen pairs of little mitts by: Mrs. David Matthews (4), Mrs. Pauline Matthews (2), Mrs. Basil MacNeill (3), Mrs. George Hardy (1), Mrs. George Murray (1), and Mrs. Heber Hardy (2).
