GOIN’ TO THE CORNER

last two meetings were used to form the Elmsdale Credit Union, and reports were sent to the papers. The first report is from the Summerside Journal April 9, 1940:

The regular monthly meeting of the associated study club of Elmsdale and surroundings was held in Basil MacNeill’s warehouse on Thursday evening April 4““. Mr. Everett Rix acted as chairman. After the reading of the minutes, which were quite commendable, and'the reports of the different study clubs, Rev. Patterson introduced by way of introductory remarks the guest speaker of the evening Rev. Mr. George Christie of Miscouche. His talk dealt with the purposes and procedure in the organi— zation of a credit union. He also gave an interesting sketch of the capitalistic economic system as compared to a Co-operative economic system. There were also short talks by Harry MacKay of St. Mark’s Credit Union and W.B. McLellan of Alberton Credit Union. There were several motions passed by the meeting, one that a letter advising Dr. Croteau of the fact that it is the intention of the members to organize a Credit Union, second, that the various clubs submit a slate of officers at the next monthly meeting and, third, that the members come prepared to sign as charter members. A few

remarks by Rev. Patterson brought to an adjournment a very profitable meeting.
