A History of Elmsdale, Elmsdale West, and Brockton, Prince Edward Island

was located. There were small hills on both sides, and it was a great place-to coast. We would go right over the snow—covered brook and up part way on the other side.

The brook was where we tried to swim (brrrr), skated, coasted, and fished trout. It was our friend in growing up years in Elmsdale.

MEN’S HOCKEY

Dock; Road Hockey Team - In the 19203 the Dock Road hockey team was formed. This was a great means of recreation. Team members were: Alton O’Brien, George Hardy, Jacob Hardy, Thomas Hardy, Everett Brennan, Parmenus Brennan, Earl MacArthur, Ronald McKenna, Charles McKenna, Sterling Matthews and Stewart Matthews. A rink was built in a field belonging to Jim Brennan with lumber donated by a local farmer. Players made their own hockey gear. All players wore only pads and gloves for protection but their goalie was well-equipped. The sticks were made from a crooked tree found in the woods. George Hardy and Jim Brennan were the stick makers. Steel blade skates were strapped to the bottom of their boots. Many enjoyable hours were spent on the ice. '
