A History of Elmsdale , West, and Brockton , The Fiddlers have had several members from Elmsdale and area, including Brendan Wallace, Kenneth Matthews , and Leith Thomson . This group practiced regularly and took part in the Winnie Chafe Concerts at Westisle Theatre. The Journal- Pioneer of 1992 mentions: The Fiddlers, a six-member group consisting of violin players Ken Matthews , Leith Thompson , Frank O'Connor and Elmer Robinson , and piano players Cyrus Gallant and Dorothy Rogers , won an award presented by the West Prince Community Advisory Board. The award inĀ¬ cluded a plaque and $500 cash prize. This group had been together for 7 years. Other musicians who entertained in the Elmsdale and Brockton areas were: James W. O' Brien , Charles Rix , Lorna Hardy , Clotilda O' Brien , George O'Connor , Ralph O' Brien , Gerald O' Brien , Catherine Wallace , Irene McKinnon , Beatrice O' Brien , Ralph Hardy , Bennett Donahue , Gertrude McKenna , Russell Warren and Lucy Barnett . SINGER , CARL ADAMS The Journal- Pioneer June 14, 1972 stated: " Prince Edward Island has always had many talented people living from West to East.. .In recent years more and more people are being recognized for the talents they have and are really going places." Carl Adams is one of these people. He was born in Elmsdale , the son of Lloyd and Dorothy Adams. From the time he could speak he always joined in the family singĀ¬ songs with his mother playing the organ. When he lived in O'Leary he and a small group formed "The Westerners" and put on variety concerts in many halls in the area.
