THE TRIANGULATION STATION The concrete base of the Elmsdale Triangulation Station still sits in the woods next to Reggie Murray’s place on the Dock Road. The only newspaper reference to this tower was in the Island Farmer November 16, 1932:

The observation tower at Mount Pleasant was blown down during the recent heavy gales, and is a total wreck. The tower was about 65 feet high and was quite near the highway and many visitors were curious to know what such a construction was doing in the woods so far away from any habitation. There are four of these towers in West Prince, the others are at Dock Road, West Cape and Urbainville,

and were put up by the federal government in 1925 when they were making a geographical survey of the Dominion.

Jacob Murray, who was 95 years old in the year 2005, remembers the tower on the Dock Road and thinks it was around 100 feet high. The tower was only six months old when Jacob climbed the steep ladder, which went from the ground right to the platform at the top. The plat- form had a railing around it and was a great place to look out over the countryside. Rumors were every- where with neighbours thinking this tower was for enemy spies. Even- tually, before the 19303 this Dock Road tower rotted and fell down. Now only the foundation remains.
