JOSEPH ZAKEM was born in 1927 in Saint Damien, Quebec. He attended Queen Square School and Prince of Wales College, which consisted of grade 11 and 12 and two years university. He finished College in 1948, the same time that we were building our new store kitty corner from the College. He decided to work in the store rather than complete his degree. In 1978, after 30 years, the business was sold and Joe and Abe

opened up Zakem’s Real Estate, operating out of an office next to the store. He died of cancer June 3, 2004.

Joe married Edith Johnston from Murray River on May 23, 1960. She was working in Charlottetown at the time as a Licensed Nursing Assistant.

Joe and Edith have three children: 1 George (January 5, 1964) is an Engineer with a Masters in Business Administration. He worked for several years as a consultant in the fisheries industry out of Halifax and later in the field of finance with the Bank of Australia

out of Toronto. 2 Paul (August 22, 1970) is a Nurse. He is married to Lorelei Frizzell, a

Pharmacist. They both work at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They have a son
