In 1968 Nahil and Uncle George Visited us on the Island. I think it was the first time for

Uncle George. They happened to be here at the right time for my son Bruce’s baptism. They also took the occasion to visit my aunt Mariam (Nahil’s sister) in Newfoundland.

Here are some “remembrances” about Aunt Nahil from Adeeb, J ameel and Charlotte:

“Ma worked in the grocery store along side Pa and still managed to be a devoted mother

to us. There are many stories to tell like leaving food many times on our back porch for a hungry stranger, or inviting someone she knew had less than her to come over and eat

dinner with us and made them feel welcome. Making sure that no matter what happened during the week to be certain that all of us ate together on Sunday morning. When it came to cooking, no one could compare to ma ’s expertise on cooking.”

“Ma made sure we went to Sunday school and church every Sunday while Pa went to the grocery store after our weekly family wafile breakfast. She was the ultimate hostess. Our friends were made to feel welcome regardless of the reason or time for being in our home. Hospitality was one of Ma ’s ongoing traits. Regardless of your social and/or economic status, you were treated as though you were part of the family.
