(2) JOSEPH MARIAGE (1868-1954)

JOSEPH Mariage was a brother to my grandfather Abraham. He moved to Grand Rapid City, Michigan. He married Iva Finney, from England on January 8, 1898. In the late 1940’s or early 1950’s they made a visit to the Island to visit Uncle Joe and Albert Kays, who would be his nephews and my mother and my aunt Marian who would be his nieces. I remember how happy my mother was to have them visit us and to have Iva show us how to make flowers out of paper. They had 10 children. At the time of writing, I was able to locate two of his grandchildren in Rapid City and they promised to send some information about Joseph and Iva. Joseph Mariage was born March 1, 1868 and died April 11, 1954. He was a peddler, store keeper and farmer. His wife Iva wwas born april 30, 1881 and died October 1949. When asked why the name was spelled Mariage, they said it had something to do with the immigration officer who spelled it that way and it remained.
