CLUB 22 CLUB 22 was another of the youth groups established in 1966 and operated until 1969. The moderator was Gail Johnston and unlike the YAC, YAK and CLAN
clubs, which consisted only of young men, CLUB 22 was organized to include both young men and women.
CLUB 22 originally consisted of 22 fun-loving, energetic, music playing, arts minded youth who met on a regular basis at the Rec. Centre and organized several functions and events for other Rec Centre youth including dances and events. Club 22 was responsible for bringing in some of the best East Coast music acts to the Rec Centre, including “The Langley Beach Crowd”.
They also utilized the musical and dramatic talent from within the club when they staged performances of their own, performing at places such as the Hillsborough Hospital, where they would entertain the residents at Christmas. A local band, “The Chosen Few” was also formed by a couple of members of the
CLUB.
The CLAN Club (1972-1975) Joe Basha established the CLAN Youth Club in 1972 following the disbanding of
the YAK Club.
The word “clan” has been defined as both a family group as well as a group with a strong common interest. For this particular group of young men who hung out at the Rec Centre in the early 19705, it was an interest in ball hockey
that they most often shared.
The CLAN Club also had three sets of brothers within its membership. There were the three Power brothers (David, Ken and Dobby) as well as the MacDonald (Sandy and Sock) and Toombs (Joey and Harry) brothers.
Although their main interest was ball hockey, the CLAN also organized dances and other events for youth at the centre. They also managed to
