This little book is a series of reflections from life on afarm in the community of Iona in southern Queens County where the author lived until into his adult years.
The time frame is roughly 1935 to 1955.
The stories have not been researched, but are personal reminiscences of farm and rural life in those somewhat quieter times.
The finished work is intended neither to boast nor to complain about the way things were.
Just the same, the book shows in positive light — with a dash of humor —— a quality of life that prevailed before the age of rapid travel and the onslaught of new technologies.
Father O’Shea was born in Iona and received his early schooling there. After working on the Island for a number of years he returned to the books and received a BA. from St. Dunstan’s University, Charlottetown, a B.Ed. from St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, and a B.Th. from Laval University in Quebec City. Ordained to the priesthood in 1967, he has exercised parish ministry in Tignish, Bloomfield, Lot 11, Brae, Lot 7, Alberton, Palmer Road and Miscouche. For the past four years he has been chaplain at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.
