Heartz Trophy, and the special prize that Frank Heartz presented annually with it. Al Hyndman won the Overall championship in the first classification division, and John Hyndman was the winner in the second class. The defunct third class was reinitiated late in the season, and, with minimal participation, was won by Jimmy Walker. Runner-up positions held very little significance in Newstead competitions, with the exception of one event that did earn a runner-up award. The Heartz Trophy match runner-up honor would go this year to former champion, Charles Leigh.
Since his kind donation of a trophy, and accompa- nying prize, the annual dinner banquet, given to honor Frank Heartz had become not only a habit, but also developed into one of Charlottetown's social high- lights of the season. They were strictly stag, as there is no evidence that, at any time, did ladies participate in anything to do with gun club activi- ties. This had been a banner year, and Frank Heartz was the club president, so this perhaps called for a special celebration...
It was organized for one week following the final shoot and was held at the Hotel Davies, located on Great George Street. Hotel Davies was one of the more popular banquet houses of the day, and still stands, on the beautifully restored avenue that leads from Province House to the harbour, as the Regent Hotel. It was a gala occasion with a number of dignitaries in attendance.
The banquet was typical of the day with toasts, and counter toasts, a large menu, speeches, and merriment. On May 13th The Daily Examiner reported in large bold headlines: "Brilliant Banquet given to Frank R. Heartz, Esquire." The copy that followed the headline outlined the evening in great detail as follows:
