who were always ready and willing to kindly assist in public or social functions of this kind. The health of Mr. R. B. Rossborough, banker, who has recently been transferred from here was then drunk, while kindly words were spoken of him, who has, gone to the West.

At this point Mr. Heartz, on behalf of the Club, presented Major Leigh, the winner of the second prize, with a splendid Meerschaum pipe and for which the major heartily, and in complimentary terms, thanked the Club.

The Club prizes for the class series were won and presented as follows: The win- ner of the first series was Mr. A. W. Hyndman; second series, Mr. J. O. Hyndman; third series, Mr. James Walker. All these gentlemen suitably acknowledged the presentations and spoke of their happiness in belonging to the Club and the pleasure they derived from its meeting throughout the year.

"Absent friends" were not forgotten and those toasted were Messrs. Rossborough, Dench, Claxton, Steel, and Appleton. Mr. Coombs gave the response, and his speech was one of the notable events of a happy evening. He gave a humorous and mathematical synopsis of the meetings held throughout the year setting forth the attendance of each individual member, his score, percentage and average marks. This was a very interesting contribution to the speeches. Not only was information given that showed the standing of every member of the Club, but the peculiarities of each were dealt with ina mastery yet mirth provoking manner, by Mr. Coombs .
