The Summerside Skeet Club, through the efforts of gunning enthusiasts like Ensor Bowness, Martin Mckenna, Dominic Gallant, and Harold Arsenault, had established a single field, manual release layout just off the Linkletter Road, opposite the golf course, and the first week in September invited the Charlottetown Club to participate in a 50-target event. Despite intense, and sometimes physical, rivalry between the two Island centres in other sports at the time, the shooting was done in an element of complete sportsmanship as evidenced by the report of the event in the Summerside Journal Pioneer:
