While Alphy was still admiring the ‘partridges’ at the feeder,
the couple received a visiter- Dora Allain, Margurita’s sister. Dora
usually made her daily rounds - she would go to the mailbox each
moming and pick up the couple’s mail, then bring it to the house.

When Dora entered the house, that morning Alphy invited her
to “Come and see the partridges outside.”

Dora was a straight-forward person who called a spade a spade.
When she looked outside and saw the morning doves, she told
Alphy, “Those are not partridges, they are morning doves.”

Alphy did not take kindly to being contradicted - he and Dora
got into a bit of a disagreement - he insisted the birds were
partridges, while she insisted they were morning doves.

When Margurita saw that the discussion was getting a bit
heated, she started to feel tense - she tried to smooth things out by
telling the two, “It doesn’t matter if they are partridges or morning
doves.”

Both Alphy and Dora ignored Margurita’s comment, and
continued to express their different opinions. Finally when Margurita
had heard enough, she went to the window and opened it. As she
did so, the birds flew away and Alphy and Dora dropped the
conversation.
