William had ten children, six with his first wife, Jane Haw- kins, and four with Jane LeLacheur.
William married Jane Hawkins on Tuesday, February 7, 1854, in a ceremony held in White Sands. According to an entry in a web page belonging to Anne Brooks (1.4.2.3.7,2.) the marriage was re- ported in The Island- er newspaper on Feb. 17, 1854. William was 27 and Jane was 23 and they lived with Vere and Elizabeth in Guernsey Cove.
Their first child, Selina Elizabeth, was born in December, 1854, followed by Elisha in March, 1856, Vere in January 1858, David in December, 1860, Louisa in January 1864, and William in February, 1868. The third Beck home was getting pretty crowded by this time, but the grim reaper was waiting in the wings and took a heavy toll on the family during the 1860s.
