Athol Buell was born on November 27th, 1931 in rural Prince Edward Island. He was an artist from a young age. When he was just a young boy, he was always asking people to pose for his sketches.
Athol was a typical teenager who read comic books and one day on the back of the cover of one of his favourite DC comics he saw an ad for an "Artist sketch book collection" which would teach the student how to draw.
So he saved up to buy the collection and was incredibly creative from that moment on.
Athol had several careers in and around Charlottetown before becoming part owner of the former Scantlebury Signs for many years before he succumbed to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease as well as Emphysema and Heart Disease. 
Athol always wanted to paint but due to the toxic nature of oil paints, he decided that it might be a good idea to start a sketch book of his favourite topic, the Second World War. He was able to sketch as often as he could without the fear of fumes.
Athol was very involved with AA and Alanon groups and for the last ten years of his life he was a Counsellor for the Department of Addiction Services of the Provincial Government. 
Athol passed away on January 20th, 1999 in his 68th year. He has left this beautiful collection of sketches which I hope will be enjoyed by all who see it. Debi Buell
